How it works

The BenchPress Project encourages scientists to volunteer as guest speakers at media colleges and newsrooms, to foster greater scientific and statistical literacy in the press.  There is a huge demand for science speakers: BenchPress volunteers have visited journalism schools in Belfast, Brighton, Camborne,  Cardiff, Coventry, Lambeth, Liverpool,  Newcastle, Sheffield, Twickenham, Vauxhall, Westminster and more!

To get involved, follow these three easy steps:

  1. Contact your local journalism training centre to see if they’d like a guest lecture on science and statistics.  They almost always do! You can use this form letter.
  2. Browse the materials on this website, especially the suggest syllabus, and take what you need.
  3. Give your lecture!

All materials on this website are free to adapt, share and distribute. Anyone is free to establish their own BenchPress workshops
